Friday Favorites

Let's talk about shoes. I kind of love shoes. Not for the fashion part of owning shoes and matching and all that, but they're just fun. I like the way new shoes feel and more importantly I love how my Chacos feel. They're not new or fashionable but I love them a lot. You can take them on and off easily, they can go in the water, the mud, a long walk, while staying on your feet the whole time. As someone who likes to be outside and camp and play as much as I do, Chacos are my friend. I just recently bought Chaco flip flops since my rainbows got a hole in them, and dude. They are just as comfy. Cali will be getting a Chaco collar when she gets full grown. And yes I'm aware of how nerdy that makes me. But you should save up your bucks and let Chacos make your feet feel happy too. Have I EVER been wrong?

Chaco shoes are not to be confused with Choco Tacos, which are probably my favorite icecream treats. One are for your feet and the other is to eat. Both are good for the soul.

Timing

We talked in Bible study this week about how girls can go from zero to psycho in no time. Breaking up with someone turns into "Crap I'll be single the rest of my life!" overnight. And that job that we're miserable in is surely where we'll be buried when we die. When we have desires, they HAVE to be met or the world ends. I mean I get that way with the small things. My puppy knocks over my lamp and I claim she's from the devil and will never grow up or learn how to behave. Slow down crazy. More importantly, we looked at Galatians 4 this week. It's slam full of good stuff and we got off on verse 4: "BUT when the time had fully come, God sent his son, born of a woman, born under law, to redeem those under law, that we might receive the full rights of sons." Before verse 4 it tells us how we used to be slaves to the law and stuff. And that magic word "BUT" means to keep reading because more important stuff comes after that. When the time fully comes, that's when God acts. He probably couldn't care less if it's what we had in mind, His idea is better. Just a sweet little reminder about God's provision. When I'm anxious, He's patient. He's so patient with me.

quote of the day

Youth Council dinner...
Tara: "We raise Chinchillas! You didn't know that?"
Me: "That sounds like a mexican dessert."
Johnathan: "That's a churro. But they're kinda like mexican rats. They should be called squabbits, actually."

quote of the day

This is what a normal text convo looks like when you've been friends for this long...

Erica: "Whatchu doin?"
Me: "At the vet with my sick puppy."
Erica: "Oh no, still poopy? Do you know what's up yet?"
Me: "She has a crazy stomach bug. We got meds."
Erica: "Maybe it's like when I eat too many fried pickles. Well yall are on your way to her feeling better."

Friday Favorites

With Pirates of the Caribbean fresh out in theaters, I thought I’d share on my favorite bout of mischief. I’ve done lots of harmless, not-so-legal activities including late nights and black outfits. But my favorite, some of you may or may not know about. Don’t worry, Campus Police has already forgiven us. On the eve of the 2007 Winthrop Day, a day in which all potential freshmen come to tour Winthrop, Grace, Courtney, Kevin, and myself decided to make a statement. That upcoming year (my senior year) Winthrop was implementing the new rule that freshmen and sophomores had to live on campus their first 2 years. As upperclassmen, we were mad. This meant that I couldn’t live with Brooke and Maggie, Grace couldn’t live with Katie B, and Courtney and Kevin…they just wanted an adventure I guess. So at 3am, Courtney drew this:

We printed off what had to be 500+ of these flyers and posted them all over campus. Now when I say “all over campus” I literally mean it looked like it had snowed. We stuck those suckers on every parking sign, building sign, statue, door, squirrel, and trashcan. The 4 of us spread out and as we were approaching our last few flyers, just as we were sticking them on the Rutledge building sign, a car door slams. Campus police get out and yell something, but us girls took off running inside Rutledge. Why the crap did we do that? Anyways, we ran through the ceramics room, just running from the cops. We finally made it to the women’s bathroom (surely they couldn’t find is in there) and the woman cop came in and busted us. No handcuffs or anything, just a disappointed/confused look at us dressed in all black with tape all over us. She gave us the option of being arrested or to take them all down, and since my criminal record is still clean, we chose to take them down. This took about another 3 hours and then we went to Waffle House. Getting a good hard talk from my RA boss a few days later wasn't my proudest moment. But it kinda was.

Obedience School

I thought that once I graduated I'd get a little more sleep. I was wrong. I was so wrong.

This homegirl wakes up at 7am with no alarm and no shame, ready to pee, eat, then play. God may use the length of this furry critter's life to teach me things. Things like patience, not to put value in tangible (chewable) things, what a sunrise looks like, and forgiveness. I wish I could forgive humans as easily as I forgive Cali. Like tonight, I guess because it's raining, she has peed in the living room floor atleast 5 times. First of all, who or what has to pee THAT much? And second, why doesn't her getting in trouble over it every time cause a change? But she is learning how to not only grab the object that I throw, but to bring the object back and fight me over it. And learning how to sit for a treat took about 3 days. She wants that thing so bad I think she'd do anything. I can only hope that one day, Cali will value sleep as much as I do. She does about 1,000 things wrong per day, but then again so do I.

quote of the day

Hiking...
Me: "Ok. If you had to wear a t-shirt with only one word on it for the rest of your life, what would that word be?"
Erica: "Mother"

Friday Favorites

Some might say that I'm too into sports for a girl. And to all those girly girls out there, I'd say you don't know what you're missing. Sure I love to watch sports on tv and go to sporting events and actually get out and play frisbee on a good afternoon. But let's be honest, professional athletes are hot. David Beckham, Andy Roddick, any and every surfer, Derek Jeter...they're fun to look at no matter what the sport may be. And I chose a major and a career field that has mostly guys in it. I knew what I was doing, I'll just say that. Today's Favorite is about golf and specifically a golfer who is easy on the eyes.

This is Rory Mcilroy and he has the cutest name, he rocks at golf, and he's from Northern Ireland. I follow him on twitter and he does all these cute things like go to rugby matches and play with his dog. My master plan was to meet him at Quail Hollow last weekend, propose, and then invite you all to the wedding in Ireland. But he didn't actually play on Sunday. There's always next year and he's only 22, so we have plenty more golf left with him and time to get married.

quote of the day

Me: "We need Bickell!"
Grace: "You right! We need to tie her to a chair so she can't move like Michelle Tanner did to her friend Teddy that time!"

If I got two wishes in the world, the first would be world peace, obviously. The second would be to have all my best friends live in Rock Hill. Preferably in the same neighborhood or house as me, but that's a bit greedy. Lots of graduation funtivities happened this weekend and it included everything that I love. I love graduating and I love having all of my friends around. Erica, Laura, and Erin came down for my graduation, and I laughed more in those 6 hours I spent with them than I had all week probably. Those girls are wonderful. Then Brooke and Ktb were here for Brittany's graduation and I don't even need to explain how much I love/miss Brooke and her living in Raleigh is getting old. The best news I got all weekend was that Ktb is moving back to South Carolina after she masters divinity and gets hired up by a church that's hopefully really close. I can't wait for that to be back to normal and to party it up on some weekends. I think it's rediculous that I have to wait until some big event or holiday happens to see my favorite people. But the solution is simple. Rock Hill has churches, YMCA's, hospitals, schools, and even a Burns Automotive (is that specific enough for you, Laura?) Come on guys, let's make it happen.

Friday Favorites

Besides being Lauren Conrad's best friend, she is one of my favorite celebs. I keep up with her blog a little and she has a thing called Friday Favorites. I wish to do this too. Not in an attempt to talk about myself more (I do get bored with myself sometimes) but to have a small but regular writing plan. I feel better when I write and I just don't do it enough. This will satisfy that craving and it will satisfy your need to read more of my blog. In my Friday Favorites, there are no rules. Just a little paragraph or 3 about my favorite somethings. With Cinco de Mayo happening just yesterday, it got me thinking about holidays. What is my favorite holiday? Well I'm glad you asked. Easter is it. Not only is it the day we celebrate the truth that Jesus rules (in every sense of the word) but it means great family time. Lake times, good food, jello shaped like an egg, an easter egg hunt where my 26 year-old brother always wins, and I get money. Now you tell me what's better than that. This year I took my new puppy to the lake and we had a great time! She slept on the boat, her cousin dog wore her slam out and she slept the rest of the afternoon. And we both went home with Easter baskets. My family is super cool!

Captain America

It's a bad time of year if you're a world-known psycho. Hitler apparently died on April 30, Voldemort died on May 2nd, and now Osama Bin Laden is dead on May 1st. Let's just talk about current events for a hot second. It seems odd to celebrate the death of someone, ya know? It's like a National holiday in America when someone dies and goes to hell. I feel weird about that as a Christian. However, I'm sure we can't count the number of people he has killed and the amount of money we've spent as military trying to find him. I don't know much about politics or intelligence or foreign military happenings, but this has to be a good thing. I personally love living in a safe country and I'm proud of our troops who make it that way. It would be great if we had a President who didn't beleive in killing or war but that's just not realistic in the world we live in. So I'm glad this world aint it for me. As for all you terrorists, over-throwers of the free world, and dark lords, I'd watch your back here lately. In other news, Prince William will return to work on Tuesday.
